If you are interested in understanding the consulting world this is a book you need. It opens a window to understand how McKinsey breaks down complex problems and attempts to solve them. It uses real examples to implement a specific 7 step methodology.

  • Use tools such as logic trees to deeply understand the problem from diverse perspectives. Ask questions to explore uncommon paths.


  • We are looking for the 20% we can influence to have the 80% of the impact.


  • Make sure your categories are MECE (Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhausting.


  • Use heuristics to create hypotheses you can later test.


  • Use the power of the collective to neutralize cognitive biases you may have.


  • Complex analysis are only useful if you can synthesize them into simple insights.


In general it is a good book, it is well written and has compelling examples. It is a little technical at times, but overall helpful.
