the Festival Of Insignificance.

Milan Kundera

10 jun 2023

In this collection of anecdotes the author invites us to question the role of humor towards life. It takes an existential approach, making us reflect on themes such as love, laughter, identity and loyalty.

  • Death becomes the old death soon, only a very few transcend.

  • "Insignificance, my friend, is the essence of existence." Not taking life seriously is the secret to living happily.

  • There is great power in silence, in insignificance. There are silences that scream.

  • It's all about perspective and interpretation. Hermeneutics applied to life. There is not a real meaning, life is just a festival of insignificance.

In general it is a very quick and enjoyable read. Kundera is a great author, with a compelling way of writing. Superficially this book might seem random, but the truth is the stories complement each other. It jumps to different periods, and different contexts, but in general they are all interesting. It has a historical humanistic point of view.
